I teach audio analyzers.
Or more accurately, I make things to make your life as a sound engineer easier.
Recently I've noticed some friends and students recommending me when someone asks for advice on learning Smaart. THANK YOU! :)
While I'm very grateful for this support (word of mouth is how things work in the audio industry) it's important to say that the answer to this question is always Rational Acoustics. They are the only ones legally allowed to teach Smaart and use its trademark.
If someone is asking for help on learning sub alignment or front-fill spacing, I'd love to be recommended for that. System design and calibration fundamentals are where it's at. But when it comes to specific products, the default educator is its manufacturer.
What I think happens sometimes (often?) is that people say Smaart when they mean audio analyzer or just audio in general. I get it. When I have a problem with my website I start by asking for help with Wordpress, but then it turns out it's something to do with the DNS zone editor. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Many times when someone tells me that need help learning Smaart, after some conversation, it turns out that what they really need is an acoustician or sub arc calculator.
So the next time you see someone asking for help with Smaart, here's my suggestion:
- Direct them to Rational Acoustics.
- Try to kindly engage them in conversation about what they are trying to accomplish. Maybe you'll have an immediate answer for them or some recommendations for next best steps.
- If you're local, offer to meet up for some hands on practice together. :)
