Here are some tips to ask your question in a way that allows everyone to help you as effectively and efficiently as possible:
- Be polite
- Be specific
- Be complete
- Include all your references
- Make it look good
Here are two great links for asking questions effectively:
- How to ask a good question 11 (StackOverflow Help Center)
- Writing the perfect question 1 (Blog post)
- This community uses Markdown so you might want to read this Markdown Cheatsheet
Use a Specific Title
Having a specific title helps others to quickly know what you want and whether they can help.
Do: How do I build an in-line gradient sub array in MAPP3D?
Don't: MAPP3D is confusing!!!
The first question title is easier to approach and easier to answer. More people will click it to attempt to answer it. You'll get help quicker, and the post will also have a bright future in helping others that encounter the same challenge you did. 😉
Include Everything
It's fun to play Guess the word with friends - but a forum is not the right place for it.
Include all the information: The more you can add to describe your situation, the easier it will be for someone else to understand your challenge and have a realistic chance of helping you with an answer. If your question is very vague and contains little to no information, you're less likely to get help. It won't be fun for others if they need to work hard to pull out every piece of information from you.
Learn from assembling information: What are all the pieces that are part of the challenge you're stuck with? Try to pull them all together and add them to your question. Doing so will help you to better understand your tasks and, additionally to making it much easier for someone else to help out, you might just solve it yourself on the way.
Link Your Resources
Link to course resource: Always include a link to the page or lesson that you have a question about. This is important! Including a link makes it easy to know what you're referring to and avoids wasted time searching around on our platform or on the wide open fields of the world wide web. 🏜️
Link your design: If your design is on DropBox or some other sharing platform, include a link to that as well!
